FRANCE / AUSTRALIA Uni-Industry workshop (4 December 2019)

The French embassy in Australia organized Uni-Industry workshop held in Adelaide.

The main objectives of the day were to:

  • Bring some high level strategic expertise on how universities and industry can work more closely together in the framework of the France / Australia relation.

After discussion on university international and industry engagement strategies (panel 1), students testimonies, discussion on the implementation of the Nicolas Baudin internship program (panel 2) Panel n°3 intends to showcase and discuss various programs and opportunities to upscale and complement the Nicolas Baudin internship program. This panel’s goal is to answer the question “how can we create large scale initiatives involving French and Australian unis as well as the industry”.

  • Dan Johnson talked about Macquarie’s cotutelle PhD program
  • Pascal Giat talked about the CIFRE program (French program for PhD with industry placement, which can also be used in the framework of international collaborations);
  • Margaret Law talked about Naval Group’s newly announced Australian Maritime Development Center as well as the joint lab project with CNRS
  • Andy Koronios talked about the CRC SmarSat and the opportunities for international
  • Christian Grillet presented the ALPhFA CNRS associated lab with RMIT/ANU/Macquarie/Swinburne/USydney and the European Marie Curie program to support joint PhDs.
